Located just yards from Edinburgh’s famous castle, at the crest of the Royal Mile, there is more history etched into each paving stone here than you will find in entire cities. To enter this plush restaurant, customers must traipse through an ancient close, enchantingly lit up by a dreamy array of fairy lights. The experience is akin to entering a magical world of make-believe, although it is inside The Witchery where the real magic happens. For diners fortunate enough to sample this esteemed restaurant’s menu, a taste sensation is in store. Food is of the fresh and seasonal variety, with local produce featuring prominently. Although the ingredients are undoubtedly tasty, it is the skill and dexterity of The Witchery’s chefs that transforms these into moreish culinary masterpieces. If the prospect of Angus beef steak tartar or a Scottish seafood platter replete with oysters, langoustines and smoked salmon doesn’t start you salivating, then fine dining surely isn’t for you.

Great meal, fantastic service. A must do. Try to get a reservation for pre-theatre or set menu, and ask to be seated in the main restaurant. Really plush surroundings. Fantastic wine list, although some are amazingly pricey.
